Samples of Our Design Work—All In Hot Metal & Printed Letterpress

There is an inclination to use ornaments as the focal point in many of our design projects. Having matrices for thousands of ornaments and also the necessary casting equipment eliminates any restriction on design because of a limited supply of an ornament. On many occasions, casting work in the foundry consumes as much time as actual assembly and printing of the form.

Ornaments don’t dominate everything we do. If a traditional setup utilizing only a single classic type design is deemed appropriate, that’s how we choose to approach the project. Nevertheless, we are not above utilizing an art element, especially if it’s one which has been gathering dust in our cabinets for several years.
If a design concept hasn’t been tried, we’re likely to find a way to exploit it. Setting type at angles, in circles, and sometimes peeking through diecuts—we’ve tried them all. Border treatments help frame the typeform and bring color and emphasis to the printed piece. Sometimes the border serves as a background tint.
Big posters showing off typefaces or a big display of border elments? Booklets with diecut covers . . . we’ve done them all.
