The Private Typecasters

0 out of 5

This deluxe private press volume was published by the late Henry Morris at his Bird & Bull Press in 2008. Rich was editor of the volume and wrote most the material therein.

Unlike the private press (which can function with as little as a case of type and a small handpress), private typecasting is different. It involves lots of heavy equipment and some complex technology. The book features fifteen different individuals and showcases pages utilizing the types they have made and composed, along with biographical information. Here you will see unknown, newly created types, ancient types cast from 200-year-old matrices, proprietary types never before shown, and a beautiful Civilite face designed by Hermann Zapf, which was never released to the commercial market.

Produced over a fourteen-month period, the labor and expense lavished on this work exceeds any previous book from Bird & Bull Press. This is a 194-page small folio edition printed on Zerkall mould-made paper, beautifully bound in quarter morocco with Japanese cloth sides and leather spine label. The same cloth and spine are used on the clamshell case which houses the book. Published originally at $1,200.
